Boxy Boyfriend Tee Times Two

Have you seen EYMM’s new Boxy Boyfriend Tee yet? Have you snagged yourself a copy of the pattern and sewn one or two up for yourself? If not, you totally should! I pre-tested it and then got super-busy helping my kids get projects ready for county fair during testing so I didn’t get a chance to get one sewn up until after the release …

… and then I promptly made myself another one! I paired both tees with my newly-sewn black “Get Moving” Leggings! (read to the end for more exciting news on the leggings)

I made my dark red and black lace print tee first. It’s a lightweight cotton/spandex and I followed the pattern to the letter. I added the optional pocket, used the v-neckline, and decided to make the sleeves out of solid black. When tracing my size of the pattern, I did blend up a size for the hips since my hip measurement is in a bigger size than my bust and my waist is on the cusp between the two.

There is enough ease that I probably would have been fine making the size based on my bust, without blending the hips up a size, but I was aiming for it to fit as Kymy intended. I love the loose, comfy feel of this tee.

The main body doesn’t need much stretch or recovery at all, so for my next Boxy Boyfriend Tee I decided to use a cotton jersey that had no spandex.

I used black cotton/spandex for the scoop neckband and the pocket and I omitted the sleeves for a capsleeve look. The Boxy Boyfriend Tee pattern also includes a crew neckband that is higher than the scoop (and the scoop is just slightly higher than the v-neck, if you’re keeping track).

I did make one other slight deviation from the pattern for this top. I lengthened the hem by two inches in front and three inches in back. I just wanted that little bit more coverage to make myself more comfortable wearing it with my beloved leggings. I left the top of the side seam split at the same level as the original pattern, so basically my vent is just a little longer than intended.

I originally bought this panda print to make something for one of my boys but it’s been calling to me from my stash. I’m glad I listened because I got several compliments when I wore it for my first 5k fun run/walk last weekend. Luckily for the boys, I have big enough scraps left over that I can easily make a Parker’s Vintage Fit T-shirt later this fall.

I love how the Boxy Boyfriend Tee pairs with jeans or shorts for a great casual look or with leggings for an excellent gym outfit.  (Psst … We’re in the midst of updating the “Get Moving” Leggings and if you buy during the sitewide 4th Anniversary Sale happening this weekend, you’ll get the updated copy when it’s re-released!)

Happy Sewing!!  ~  Joelle

I got the panda fabric from So Sew English. It’s a cotton jersey (no spandex), so if you get it you’ll have to use something different for neckbands. 😉
