Inspiration: ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’

posted in: Babies & Kids, Inspiration, Sewing | 1

I create with fabric… I don’t sketch/draw/paint, but last night I decided to give it a shot anyway.  I was struggling to see the finished idea in my head so I figured what’s the harm?  I love that I didn’t butcher it and instead I rather enjoyed it!

This is my inspiration for Kenzie’s 1st birthday dress!  I can’t believe she will be 1 in 4 days.  She has grown up SO fast.  It seems like just yesterday I was going into labor, yet I have a little girl who is smart as a whip walking around, talking & eating anything she can get her hands on.  She is sweet and determined and you can just look at her and see the wheels turning.

Anyway on to my sketch and the idea for her birthday dress!  The theme for her birthday is rainbows and I wanted something fun, different & fit for the spoiled little princess that she is.  I sketched this out with pencil and then used watercolor pens to paint it & a fine tip black sharpie to outline and mark the details.  The top will be pink and the colors will be a tad different, but you get the idea.

Due to popular demand I do plan on creating a patter for it if it turns out the way I have planned.  Now I just have to decide which 11 of these 24 colors to choose.
