My first drafted pattern! Mini Boden style retro baby dress!

posted in: Babies & Kids, Sewing | 14

So a few months back I fell in LOVE with this dress… Mini Boden 60’s Baby Dress

But $72 for both plus shipping is just out of my buget! SOOO last night I finally got around to drafting my own pattern! I have never drafted my own pattern for something that had so much style. Most things I have done have just been rectangles & sqaures. Anyways it took me about 1.5 hours to draft the pattern & probably about 1 hour total to sew. Anyways please ignore all the blue marks & discolorations… it is the marker that washes out, I was just to excited & had to take a picture NOW.

The pleats on the original dress where different, but I didn’t make the front panel big enough to do them the same, but I think I actually like my pleats better! Anyways here it is!!!

I know the buttons look wonky, it is a 6-12m & so it barely fits on the white body thing so the one shoulder was laying kinda weird. I didn’t realize it was messed up until after I took & downloaded the pics. I will take better pics after I wash & press it. I just used white muslim since this was the test dress & I didn’t expect it to come out so well!

I plan on making them each 2 more… one that is red with big white polka dots & then another out of a vintage sheet.

Sorry I don’t have the extra time to draft up free patterns/tutorials for more complicated items like these. Maybe someday!

I remember making 2 dresses like that in early 70’s for my nieces out of Holly Hobby fabric- was pattern hard to draft- I may have to make some for friend’s daughter.

This is so cute! I really want to try to make a dress like this for my little girl, but I’m not experienced enough to try to draft my own pattern.

    Dear Madam,
Is there a way I can obtain apattern of that dress?
Please, I would like to buy your pattern as I am 84 years old, homebound, and would like to make a dress for my great grandaughter, 2 years old. I will send you a check as needed.
    Thank you,
